‘Black Woman is power…’
‘Black Woman is strong…’
‘Black Woman don’t cower…’
‘Black Woman fights wrong…’
Everything knows that song,
They sing it well
Really, it’s an “amazing story” to tell.
But –
Who fights for black women when they’re bruised?
When they’re beaten down and abused?
What happens when –
‘Black Woman is weak…’
‘Black Woman is tired…’
‘Black Woman too quiet…’
‘Black Woman do cower…’
Who protects her?
Is a black woman’s worth determined by the amount of trauma she overcomes?
Is she deemed worthy only when she becomes a shield?
Does she ever get a chance to truly heal?
Who cries when the black woman dies? (And does she ever make it to paradise?)
